Experience immersive technologies first-hand

On October 9, 2024, the KreativInstitut.OWL opened its doors for the Interactive Experience Day 2024 - a day dedicated to immersive technologies. Visitors had the opportunity to experience and try out virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and other modern technologies in various fields such as construction and engineering, medicine, the cultural and creative industries and gaming.

»We want to invite people from different application areas to get involved and discover added value for their everyday professional or private lives. The focus of the day is on trying it out for yourself.«
- Prof. Dr. Alexander Kutter

Our visitors learn how VR is used in nursing training to create practical training opportunities. Flows become visible and explorable through the use of VR in fluid mechanics. We showed how interactive experiences can promote well-being through design and what opportunities AR and VR applications can offer in the fields of construction, medicine, culture and gaming.

The participants not only gained theoretical insights, but also tried out interactive applications themselves.

Interactive Experiences

Arts/Culture
Fmr. Prof. Binh Minh Herbst
(A.MUSE – Interactive Design Studio)

In the virtual reality art installation »SWING VR« by A.MUSE - Interactive Design Studio, the dream of flying becomes reality. The innovative combination of swing and virtual reality creates a feeling of freedom and weightlessness - a poetic, breathtaking and unforgettable experience for young and old alike. Swinging has always had a calming and joyful effect on the human psyche - a phenomenon that has been recognized since ancient times and is deeply connected to the feeling of carefree joy. SWING VR promotes the well-being of users through the »Design for Happiness« approach. Thanks to its customizability, SWING VR opens up numerous application possibilities, including innovative marketing strategies and corporate applications such as city marketing and brand staging.

Medicine
Tino Hentschel –
PflegeDigital 2.0

The »PflegeDigital 2.0« project demonstrates a practical, multilingual and fully digital modular solution for interactive learning of elementary, practical and examination-relevant nursing processes with subsequent training of selected processes in virtual reality. The virtual reality training uses “WebXR” technology and can therefore be run in the browser on various types of head-mounted displays without installing additional software.

  • mehr über Tino

Tino Hentschel war von 2020 bis 2023 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Projekt "PflegeDigital 2.0" an der HAW Hamburg. Aktuell ist er Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Multimediale und Interaktive Systeme der Universität zu Lübeck.

Fluid mechanics
Prof. Dr. Philipp Epple

Prof. Dr. Philipp EppleCurrents are often invisible or difficult to see, such as air and water currents. Experimental methods such as theatrical fog, laser cutting, wool threads and oil film images etc. are used to make the flows visible. Flow simulations can also be used to make flows virtually visible, allowing them to be explored interactively via VR. Explore the flow around airplanes and vehicles yourself using VR!

Our applications from KIO

We at KIO also offered experiences, including the walk-in orchestra, where you can experience a piece of music from the position of the various instruments. Visitors:inner were able to play RE:Constructor, a multiplayer game created for Ideenexpo 2024 and future recruitment fairs in cooperation with STRABAG AG. It was also possible to experiment with a virtual organ.
