OWL University of Applied Sciences takes the protection of personal data very seriously. We have therefore taken technical and organizational measures to ensure that data protection regulations are complied with. All web activities are carried out in accordance with the applicable legislation on the protection of personal data and data security. Our security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments. However, we cannot guarantee complete data security when communicating by e-mail, so we recommend that you send confidential information by post.

§ 2 YOUR RIGHTS

(1) In the following, we provide information about the collection of personal data when using our website. Personal data is all data that can be related to you personally, such as name, address, e-mail addresses, user behavior.

(2) The controller pursuant to Art. 4 (7) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is OWL University of Applied Sciences, Campusallee 12, D-32657 Lemgo. You can contact our data protection officer at our postal address with the addition “the data protection officer” or at datenschutz(at)th-owl.de.

(3) When you contact us by e-mail and/or via the contact form, the data you provide (your e-mail address, your name and your query, if applicable) will be stored by us in order to answer your questions. We delete the data arising in this context after storage is no longer required, or restrict processing if there are statutory retention obligations. The legal basis is Art. 6 I (a) GDPR in conjunction with the Higher Education Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW), as you consent to the above-mentioned processing of your data when you send us your inquiry by e-mail. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. § 2 IHRE RECHTE

(1) You have the following rights vis-à-vis us with regard to the personal data concerning you

  • in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR, to request information about your personal data processed by us. In particular, you can request information about the purposes of processing, the category of personal data, the categories of recipients to whom your data has been or will be disclosed, the planned storage period, the existence of a right to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing or objection, the existence of a right of appeal, the origin of your data if it was not collected by us, and the existence of automated decision-making including profiling and, if applicable, meaningful information on its details;

  • in accordance with Art. 16 GDPR, to immediately request the correction of incorrect or incomplete personal data stored by us; in accordance with Art. 17 GDPR, to request the deletion of your personal data stored by us, unless the processing is necessary to exercise the right to freedom of expression and information, to fulfill a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest or to assert, exercise or defend legal claims;

  • in accordance with Art. 18 GDPR, to demand the restriction of the processing of your personal data if the accuracy of the data is disputed by you, the processing is unlawful, but you refuse to delete it and we no longer need the data, but you need it to assert, exercise or defend legal claims or you have lodged an objection to the processing in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR;

  • in accordance with Art. 20 GDPR, to receive your personal data that you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format or to request that it be transmitted to another controller; in accordance with Art. 7 para. 3 GDPR, to revoke your consent to us at any time. As a result, we may no longer continue the data processing that was based on this consent in the future

(2) If your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR, provided that there are reasons for this arising from your particular situation or the objection is directed against direct advertising. In the latter case, you have a general right to object, which will be implemented by us without specifying a particular situation.

§ 3 COLLECTION OF PERSONAL DATA WHEN VISITING OUR WEBSITE

(1) When using the website for information purposes only, i.e. if you do not register or otherwise provide us with information, we only collect the personal data that your browser transmits to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the following data, which is technically necessary for us to display our website to you and to ensure stability and security (legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR):

  • Access status/HTTP status code

  • Amount of data transferred in each case

(2) We use cookies on our website. These are small files that your browser automatically creates and that are stored on your end device (laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) when you visit our website. Cookies do not cause any damage to your end device and do not contain any viruses, Trojans or other malware.

(3) Information is stored in the cookie that results in each case in connection with the specific end device used. However, this does not mean that we obtain direct knowledge of your identity. (6) The data processed by cookies are necessary for the purposes mentioned to safeguard our legitimate interests and those of third parties in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR.

(7) Most browsers accept cookies automatically. However, you can configure your browser so that no cookies are stored on your computer or a message always appears before a new cookie is created. However, completely deactivating cookies may mean that you cannot use all the functions of our website.

§ 4 YOUTUBE

On this page, videos from third-party providers are integrated as content via the video portal “YouTube” of YouTube LLC, headquartered at 901 Cherry Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. By clicking on a video and the associated use of YouTube, your data may be processed by “YouTube”. If you are logged into your Google/YouTube account at the same time as accessing the video, YouTube can track the sub-page of our website from which the video is accessed. If you would like to prevent this data collection, please log out of YouTube before visiting our site or watching the video. Details can be found in the terms of use of “YouTube” and, since “YouTube” is a “Google” company, in the data protection guidelines of “Google”. The legal basis is Art. 6 I (f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest arises from the fact that by embedding the videos we offer you an informative added value about our activities or about information of professional interest to you. We do not store any of your data in the process. If you wish to completely prevent Google from collecting data, you should refrain from accessing the videos. The embedding and retrievability of the videos does not interfere with your fundamental freedoms.

§ 5 THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA (FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM)

The online presence of the OWL University of Applied Sciences does not use any direct integration of social media plugins (e.g. Like buttons) of the social networks Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. This means that no data is transmitted to external social networks when you visit the website. Only when you click on icons/symbols/links of the social networks on the websites of the OWL University of Applied Sciences and call up the linked pages do you leave the websites, which are the responsibility of the OWL University of Applied Sciences, and external websites are called up in accordance with the conditions of the respective provider/social network. We would like to point out that user data may be processed outside the European Union. This may result in risks for users because, for example, it could make it more difficult to enforce users' rights. With regard to US providers that are certified under the Privacy Shield, we would like to point out that they thereby undertake to comply with the data protection standards of the EU. For a detailed description of the respective processing and the opt-out options, please refer to the information provided by the providers linked below. In the case of requests for information and the assertion of user rights, we would also like to point out that these can be asserted most effectively with the providers. § 6 FURTHER FUNCTIONS AND OFFERS OF OUR WEBSITE

(1) As a matter of principle, we do not pass on personal data that is processed in the context of using the OWL University of Applied Sciences website to third parties.

(2) In individual cases, we use external service providers to process your data. These have been carefully selected and commissioned by us, are bound by our instructions and are regularly checked on the basis of a contract in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR.

(3) Furthermore, we may pass on your personal data to third parties if this is necessary to carry out the educational mission, to enforce our rights under the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure (StPO) or to assert claims for damages in the event of copyright infringements and the investigation of criminal offenses, as well as to advise and support our students.

§ 7 DATA SECURITY

We use the widespread SSL (Secure Socket Layer) method in conjunction with the highest level of encryption supported by your browser when you visit our website. As a rule, this is 256-bit encryption. If your browser does not support 256-bit encryption, we use 128-bit v3 technology instead. You can tell whether an individual page of our website is transmitted in encrypted form by the closed display of the key or lock symbol in the lower status bar of your browser. We also use suitable technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against accidental or intentional manipulation, partial or complete loss, destruction or unauthorized access by third parties. Our security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments.
