and healthy habits

Mental health is a key factor in staying healthy and productive at work. There are many different approaches and methods that can help you stay mentally healthy in your everyday life. In this article, I will focus on two key aspects from our workshop on June 17: Values and habits.

We are often confronted with challenges and stress in our day-to-day work. Some people are better able to deal with these challenges than others. One reason for this may be the way they view things and themselves. Understanding your own values and self-worth are helpful foundations.

Values are fundamental beliefs and principles that guide your behavior and decisions. They come from upbringing, culture, personal environment and experiences as well as social norms. Ask yourself which values are most important to you and how they are reflected in your daily life. There are simple exercises online, such as the values test from "Ein Guter Plan". (Werte-Test https://einguterplan.de/werte-test). By recognizing and prioritizing your values, you can make authentic decisions and strengthen your self-worth. This will also improve your mental health.

Good habits are just as important. They are essential for your productivity and in many respects also for your health. The process of establishing positive habits and getting rid of negative ones can be facilitated by clear goals and self-reflection. Here, too, it helps to be aware of your own values. Start with small, concrete steps and build on these.

Pay attention to the following four laws of habit formation; according to James Clear https://jamesclear.com/

A habit must be obvious.
A habit must be attractive.
A habit must be simple.
A habit must be satisfying.

Use each of these rules to establish a healthy habit or avoid a bad habit.

Last but not least, give practicing mindfulness and meditation a chance. When you feel mentally well, you are more focused, creative and resilient. Creative pressure and anxiety about the future are common challenges that can be overcome with proven strategies. Practice mindfulness and meditation to calm your mind and stay in the moment. These techniques help to reduce stress and strengthen your mental resilience. Meditation apps can help you to practise regularly. Over time, you will learn to regulate your emotions and focus better.
