We win at the React Jam!

What makes the KreativInstitut.OWL special is the proximity of theory to practice and research to business. We have rekindled this proximity with the Rock Paper Shoot ! project. The browser game was a challenge for our research team with the question: “Can we create a video game in a week and expand our knowledge of the multiuser area on the web?”

So, you also make video games?

The KreativInstitut.OWL team has not existed in this constellation for very long. Challenges like this are just the right thing to find out how we can work as a team.

The React Jam is an international competition for video game development based around web development with the React framework. The task for the fall 2023 round was to rethink a classic game.

Quote At times it was super exhausting and challenging, but I learned so many new things about the technologies we work with!

Our browser-based multiplayer game combines familiar mechanics from Rock Paper Scissors with the classic game of Pong. Players hurl rock scissors or paper at each other and can skillfully parry these confrontations, as we know it from the Rock Paper Scissors game. Accompanied by dynamic gameplay, loving graphics and illustrations, as well as a handmade, energetic soundtrack, Rock Paper Shoot ! was an adventure for the KIO team consisting of Prof. Dr. Alexander Kutter, Nicklas Scharpff, Conrad Dreyer, Fabian Knof, Colin Behrens and Nils Kröger.
