BatchAR in action:
Augmented reality in the ruf-catalog 2025

The ruf-catalog 2025 relies on augmented reality (AR) to offer readers additional digital content. Five interactive areas were integrated into the catalog using BatchAR, the platform-independent augmented reality tool developed by KIO.

Augmented reality in a printed catalog

An innovative approach was chosen for the ruf-catalog 2025: Trackers have been placed at five points in the catalog, allowing users to experience digital content such as videos or image galleries directly in the printed catalog using a smartphone or tablet. BatchAR was used, a tool developed at the KIO to enable the simple design and implementation of AR applications - without having to rely on special platforms, apps or end devices.

Advanced functions: Picture galleries and interactive videos

As part of the project, some modifications were made to the standard output of the BatchAR to meet the requirements of the catalog. For example, image galleries were integrated that can be scrolled through using buttons. An additional enhancement was the implementation of videos with integrated button control. These adaptations offer users of the catalog a new kind of interactivity.

Potential for professional use

With a print run of 85,000 copies and as a product of Europe's leading provider of supervised youth travel, the ruf-catalog shows that augmented reality can be used effectively not only in the entertainment industry, but also in the travel industry. The project illustrates that BatchAR is a flexible tool that is also suitable for complex, large-scale projects and can be easily adapted to specific requirements.
