Was artificial intelligence used to create an image? That’s not always obvious at first glance. With AI TAGGER, KreativInstitut.OWL offers a free web app that makes it easy to label AI-generated and AI-edited images in a transparent and machine-readable way.

Let’s be honest: With some images, you can tell right away that artificial intelligence was used. With others, it’s not nearly as clear. Was it a meticulously planned photo shoot? A pretty ambitious Photoshop session? Or were prompts involved? That’s why transparency regarding the creation process is becoming increasingly important.
The transparency requirements of the European AI Act have been in effect since August 2, 2026. Among other things, they regulate the labeling of certain AI-generated and AI-edited content. The goal is to make it easier to determine when artificial intelligence was involved in the creation of a piece of content.
This is an important cause that we at KreativInstitut.OWL support. After all, AI opens up many new possibilities—possibilities that we at KIO explore, scrutinize, and test directly in our AI Lab. A mindful approach to AI is very important to us—not out of sheer mistrust of the technology, but as the foundation for an open and responsible use of it.
However, mandatory labeling, transparency requirements, metadata, and EU icons—that sounds like a whole lot of regulations. And it quickly raises the question: How can this be implemented easily in everyday life?
With our free web app, you can quickly and easily label AI-generated and AI-edited images. Simply upload an image, select an appropriate tag, place it, and then export the labeled image.
You can use either one of the provided EU icons or your own AI tag. The size, position, and orientation can be flexibly adjusted. This ensures the label remains clearly visible without overshadowing the actual image.
You can also process multiple images at once and then export them as a batch. This is especially handy for social media posts, presentations, campaigns, or other projects where an image rarely stands alone.
In addition to the visible label, AI TAGGER can also add machine-readable metadata to the images. This information helps technical systems recognize AI-generated or AI-edited content.
There are still many unanswered questions and a few gray areas surrounding the AI Act and the labeling of AI-generated content. That’s why you’ll find further information and practical tips in the Good to Know section. These are designed to help you better understand the new requirements and make informed decisions about how to handle AI-generated content.
Whether you use the AI TAGGER for your work, personal projects, social media, or your next term paper: The tool is designed to make labeling AI images as easy as possible for you. Why not give the AI TAGGER a try? Open AI TAGGER
