Immersive music productions are easily accessible these days — readily available via a wide variety of streaming services. But what makes a music mix immersive? What are the differences between formats like Dolby Atmos and Ambisonics? And how does it sound under ideal conditions?

That’s why we now have the Spatial Audio Listening Sessions (S.A.L.S.) at the S.A.A.L.: we listen to immersive music productions together and discuss them. On February 5, there was a brief introduction to the Ambisonics format, followed by a discussion of works from the S.A.A.L. and students’ immersive productions. The interdisciplinary exchange, with its diverse perspectives on immersive music production, was particularly beneficial for everyone.

There will be more Spatial Audio Listening Sessions in the coming semester — keep an eye on our website and the KIO Instagram channel!

By the way: Students from the three universities in the KIO network can carry out their own projects at S.A.A.L. To get involved, contact Sascha (sascha.etezazi@hfm-detmold.de) or Benedikt (benedikt.jaeger@hfm-detmold.de).
