Experience future technologies

Quote What is emerging at KIO at the interface of digitalisation, music and art is groundbreaking: a place where research not only drives new technologies forward, but also rethinks education, creativity and cultural participation – exactly the kind of impetus we need for tomorrow's society.

Julia Eisentraut, MdL

During the tour of the KIO, our researchers from the association – Detmold University of Music, Paderborn University and OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts – presented digital products of the future and made them audible and visible. Julia Eisentraut was first given a demonstration of the 3D body scanner, which enables people and objects to be digitised precisely and transferred as virtual models to various fields of application. This means that these digitally captured objects can be made accessible not only for research and teaching, but also for industrial use.

Next, the newly opened Spatial Audio and Arts Lab (SAAL) was presented – one of the largest 3D speaker installations in Germany with a 43.4 system. The lab is used for research and application of immersive sound worlds.

The researchers then demonstrated the Extended Reality Lab (XR LAB), including the Synchroverse project. This is a multifunctional platform for virtual and augmented reality that enables users to collaborate regardless of their location. Participants can load digital content such as 3D models or scanned rooms into the application and edit them together. The institute also presented a hologram display case for the exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of the Hermann Monument for the State Museum.

From conception and development to the results, Ms Eisentraut was able to gain an insight into our research and laboratories.

In the concluding discussion with Ms Eisentraut, the current AI campaign in collaboration with the Lippe Regional Association was discussed. The campaign marking the 150th anniversary of the Hermann Monument does not pursue any commercial goals, but serves to promote cultural public relations, regional visibility and education about generative artificial intelligence in the fields of art, culture, ethics and the environment.

Another focus was the discussion of the prospective expansion of the Creative Campus Detmold with the aim of bringing together science, start-ups and the creative industries in one place.
